I have always been fascinated by mythology regarding dragons... all it's symbolic ties to the snake too, from David Icke's freak theories about a reptilian race to the biblical apocalypse to the Indian version of the snake called Kundalini... our dormient primal energy that may be awakened through the practice of yoga, alchemy and various other esoteric methods.
Just curious to know, who saw that 80's B-Movie called "The Way of The Dragon" (not to be confounded with Bruce Lee's legendary "ENTER THE DRAGON", a true cult movie for all martial arts fans) ...I watched it over and over as a prurient teenager... there was a really cute female heroin.
Plus the baddie was a certain self proclamed "Shogun of New York"

This new work in the making... a sketch which shall become another oil on canvas 40x50 cm. titled: "BACK IN THE DAYS OF GOLDRAKE!"

It is a commisioned piece of art I am doing for a dear friend of mine. He is an MMA and Jujitsu instructor, thus he holds in common with me all that freaky love for martial arts. He asked if I could possibly incorporate a theme regarding martial arts. Well, I am enthralled. Hell Yes I can!!!

So here ya have it... THIS is a dirrect homage to all the japanese influence I absorbed as a child growing up watching japanese "MANGA"- (cartoons). Awesome experience indeed, the japanese have an extra drive... I have always though so... I really love their culture. Goldrake, Gundam, Jeeg Robot, Ken Shiro... and many many more... you name it!
As a freak child born into a hippy community I traveled the world... although I am an American citizen I grew up in Europe. Mainly in England and Italy; and I can assure you all that my generation of freaks, (I intend Italy in this case), cannot have come out of their childhood/prime adolescence with having been influenced in some manner by the phenomenum of japanese "manga", so here I am talking about a serious slice of neo-pop culture being dealt with in this piece of art right here. Amen!
